Patchouli Organic Essential Oil is extracted from the Pogostemon cablin plant, native to Malaysia and India, and has a rich musky-sweet, spicy smell. Derived from the Tamil words 'pachchai ilai' meaning 'green leaf', patchouli oil is obtained from dried and fermented young leaves through steam distillation. Its fragrance and potency improve with age and it is highly valued in skincare for scar healing.

In eastern countries, patchouli oil is used in potpourris and sachets to fragrance clothes and repel insects. It balances emotions, creates an amorous atmosphere, and eases anxiety and depression when used in an oil burner. In bath water, it helps with skin and scalp complaints, fungal infections, fluid retention, cellulite, and constipation. It has excellent tissue regenerating properties, speeding up healing and fighting infections, aiding in acne, eczema, sores, ulcers, and athlete's foot.

Historically, patchouli was used to protect Indian cashmere shawls from moths, which became a signature smell in Victorian England. In the 1960s and 70s, it was popular among hippies in Europe and America for covering body odor and the smell of burnt cannabis and was used as a hair conditioner for dreadlocks. In many Asian countries, it is also used as an antidote to snake bites.
